Postcard from provence
Where time slows down, lavender scents the air, and somehow life feels a little simpler.
There are some places you visit and enjoy, and then there are places that stay with you long after you've unpacked your suitcase. For me, Provence is definitely one of the latter.
From the moment we arrived, there was something about the pace of life that felt different. Nobody seemed to be in a hurry. Long lunches weren't rushed, coffee breaks stretched into conversations, and evenings lingered long after the sun had set.
It's hard to explain exactly what makes Provence so special. Perhaps it's the landscape. Everywhere you look there are rolling vineyards, olive groves, golden stone villages and, in summer, lavender fields that seem to stretch forever. Every turn in the road reveals another view that makes you reach for your camera.
But the real magic isn't just what you see. It's how the place makes you feel.
Falling Into the Rhythm
One of my favourite things about Provence was how easy it was to slow down.
Mornings began with fresh pastries from the local bakery and coffee enjoyed on a terrace overlooking the countryside. There was no rush to be anywhere. We would wander through village markets, stop for lunch in a shaded square, and spend afternoons exploring whichever road happened to catch our eye.
The days seemed longer somehow.
Or perhaps we were simply paying more attention to them.
The Moments I'll Remember
Of course, the lavender fields were every bit as beautiful as you'd imagine, but some of my favourite memories were the simplest ones.
Finding a tiny village square where locals were playing pétanque beneath the trees.
Browsing market stalls overflowing with fresh fruit, cheeses and handmade treasures.
Sharing a bottle of rosé as the evening light turned everything gold.
Watching life unfold at its own pace and feeling completely content to do the same.
Those are the moments that stay with you.
More Than a Destination
What I loved most about Provence wasn't any particular sight or attraction. It was the feeling of being there.
It reminded me how much joy there is in slowing down. In taking the scenic route. In lingering over lunch. In choosing experiences over schedules.
In a world that often feels busy and noisy, Provence feels wonderfully uncomplicated.
Why I'd Go Back
I can completely understand why people return to Provence year after year.
Not because they've run out of places to discover, but because it offers something that's becoming increasingly rare—a chance to reconnect with life's simple pleasures.
Good food.
Beautiful surroundings.
Meaningful conversations.
And the space to truly enjoy them.
A Final Thought
As I sat watching the sun set over the vineyards on our final evening, I realised that Provence isn't really a place you "do."
It's a place you experience.
A place that encourages you to slow down, look around and appreciate the beauty that's often hiding in plain sight.
And perhaps that's why it stays with you long after you've left.
